Red Horse Omen

So strange how these two pictures appeared on my Facebook Live Feed. It must be some kind of omen, right? Dionysus must be sending these photos and telling me in the future something like, “I told you so”.

Time to Vote: Open Web Awards

At last, Mashable’s Open Web Awards is now accepting votes. After a month of nominations, it’s now down to the top five of each category. Anyone can vote as long as you have a Twitter or Facebook account.

I’m more interested in the top Facebook game category. The contenders are Pet Society, Fish Wrangler, MouseHunt, Ghost Trappers (yey!), and BattleStations.

Please, please vote for Ghost Trappers. XD

The polls will run until December 13 and the results will be out two days after, December 15.

Pirate Bay Closed Permanently

The torrent tracker giant, Pirate Bay, shuts down for good. After being put on trial earlier this year and rising from the dead despite those setbacks, the top guys from TPB made the hard decision of pulling the plug. Trackers are no longer needed with the advancements in bittorrent protocols; they explained.

It’s really sad to watch the group go down.

Defaults in Programming

How come whenever we find sample code on the net, when we read geeky books, or whenever we develop, it has one of these.

foo
Is this poo? Or FU?

foo bar
Edible? I hope not if it’s  related to the first one I mentioned above.

x
Why use x out of the 26 letters? It’s not even part of the keys on your keyboard you should properly place your fingers. I suggest from now on, we use f. It’s easier to press and with the number of times we type foo, I’m sure we won’t have a trouble adjusting.

No x there…

John Doe
Some lucky guy who accidentally got famous after a cult of programmers decided to use him as the default user of not just one or two but all of their software dev projects. He is mysteriously related to Adam, Bob, and Carl.

Juan dela Cruz a.k.a. Juan de la Cruz
Of course Filipinos have our own John Doe. His name was used as a default name even before programming existed.

Hello world!
The world never answered back. Sad. Despite the millions of times programmers all over the globe said hello.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
Foxes don’t go near dogs. They are even afraid of those “scary-looking” beagles.

…lean, mean hunting machine…
(foxes not included upon purchase)

Lorem Ipsum
Because “The quick brown fox…” was too short so some guy decided to write a paragraph of this. A lot have tried decoding, but failed. The secret message is still shrouded in mystery. Apparently hard to solve than the Da Vinci code.

Humanity: Epic Fail (on Software Dev)

A blog post by Jon Skeet on how we failed in software development. It points out how we made programming more complex instead of simpler. Had me laughing (in a geeky way) while I was reading it.

Note: For programmers only

OMG Ponies!!! (Aka Humanity: Epic Fail)

Mashable’s Open Web Awards

Please nominate my favorite Facebook game, Ghost Trappers in this year’s Open Web Awards by Mashable. No, I’m not influencing you to nominate.Ghost Trappers.Ghost Trappers.Ghost Trappers.Ghost Trappers.Ghost Trappers…

Putting that aside, the Open Web Awards is now in its 3rd year. Hooray! As an advocate of the power of social media, Mashable in partnership with Motorola came up with this online awards. People get to nominate and vote his or her favorite social media stuff (game, app, company, etc.). Anything that we see that rocks the web and social media. The contest has a lot of categories to list here. Just login using your Twitter or Facebook account and nominate.

Deadline for nominations is on November 15. After the nominations, top 5 nominees will advance to the voting round from which we can vote as winner of that category. Voting starts November 18 until December 13. Winners will be announced on December 15.

So there. Please nominate. Ghost Trappers.

Let’s Rename Earth To Cafe World

I’ve been in and out of the restaurant business. I closed down mine for good a couple of  months ago since I had to concentrate on more important stuff–like blogging??? I’m talking about my Restaurant City account, by the way.

Cafe World has the same general game concept but different features and game play. I tried it out 2 weeks ago and I said to myself:

“This is too addicting.

I should stop.

Maybe after my burger’s done.

Wait! I should really stop.”

And thankfully, I snapped out and was able to return to my normal life without withdrawal symptoms. The game play is more active than Restaurant City. That’s why it’s more enjoyable to play. And really bad if you want to be productive at work.

Cafe World did not jump but teleported to the top Facebook games. It has so many monthly active users (it only needs to have it’s own flag and constitution), we can name it the United Restaurants of Facebook.

“Today Facebook… tomorrow, the world!”

*evil laugh*

*lightning bolt*

*more evil laugh*

“Burger’s done!”

Google Chrome Video

This is actually the best video I’ve seen in a while. And to top it off, it’s the best software advertisement from what I’ve seen so far. Makes you wish surfing the internet was really like this. Nicely done Motion Theory and Google for producing this video. I love the song also by Tim Meyers.

Fail Whale Strikes Again

The glee and bitterness of this screen. I love the Fail Whale. It makes me laugh for some reason. And after a few seconds, I’ll realize, “Hey, Twitter’s down. Dang!”

“Twitter is over capacity.” doesn’t sound correct though. Oh well… my forte is PHP not English.
