Twitter, Facebook Died on Us

Around 13:00 UTC (if my timezone conversion is correct), social websites Twitter and Facebook died. I “shed tears” for those websites. Apparently, a crude but seemingly effective method of bringing a website down was used. I didn’t notice this because I was asleep between 12:30-15:00 UTC. Damn… The exciting things happen when I’m asleep.

See TechCrunch for the official statements of Twitter and Facebook plus screenshots when it happened. Here’s also a link to Twitter’s status page. Facebook announced this in their official page:

“You may have had trouble accessing Facebook earlier today because of network issues related to an apparent distributed denial-of-service attack. We have restored full access for most people. We’ll keep monitoring the situation to make sure you have the reliable experience you expect from us.”

While this was happening, TechCrunch posted a link to this handy article on what to do while Twitter was down. You know how we can’t live without Twitter and Facebook, right?
